Our Story

The story of Cluxewe Resort and the place we call home.

We are a First Nations-owned and operated campground, RV park and resort on northern Vancouver Island.

Welcome to our ancestral homelands

At Cluxewe Resort, we are dedicated to protecting and showcasing our proud heritage. We invite visitors from near and far to experience the magic of these lands and waters, which have provided the spiritual and physical foundations of our living culture.

Since time immemorial, our ancestors have been living in connection with the temperate rainforest and Pacific Ocean. We have stewarded the diversity of these territories, which are home to plants such as algae, mosses, lichens, fungi, ferns, conifers and flowering plants, and animals such as jellyfish, mollusks, arthropods, echinoderms, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Remote yet accessible

Cluxewe has two different meanings: place of the changing river mouth and place of refuge.

Kwakiutl traditional accounts provide evidence that Cluxewe Resort sits on lands that have been identified as an Origin site. Several centuries ago, the area was a teeming village of over 2000 people, with daily fishing and commerce activities.

Today, this unique location serves as both a place of welcome and one of learning and storytelling. Visitors from near and far enjoy Cluxewe Resort for its accessibility, yet refuge-like quality.
